Asthi Visarjan and Other Death Rituals at Gokarna

Gokarna is one of the most sacred destinations in India for performing Asthi Visarjan, Pinda Pradhan, Tarpana, Narayana Bali, Tripindi Shraddha and other Pitru Karma rituals. The divine presence of Lord Mahabaleshwar Atmalinga, the holy Koti Tirtha and the Arabian Sea makes Gokarna a powerful kshetra for ancestral rituals and spiritual liberation.

What is Asthi Visarjan?

Asthi Visarjan is the sacred Hindu ritual of immersing the ashes and bone remains of a departed soul in a holy water body after cremation. This ritual is usually performed along with sankalpa, tarpana and prayers seeking peace and liberation for the departed soul.

According to Hindu tradition, Asthi Visarjan is an important duty towards one’s ancestors and forms a significant part of the post-death rituals prescribed in the scriptures.

Why Asthi Visarjan Should Be Done at Gokarna

Gokarna is renowned as a Mukti Kshetra, Siddhi Kshetra and Prayaschitta Kshetra. It is considered one of the most sacred places in India for Pitru Karma and ancestral rituals.

The presence of the world’s only Atmalinga of Lord Shiva, the sacred Koti Tirtha and the spiritually vibrant Arabian Sea coastline makes Gokarna highly suitable for Asthi Visarjan and other death rituals. Many devotees believe that rituals performed here help the departed soul attain peace and bring blessings to the family.
